Days 3 and 4: Getting in the groove
I can't believe it's already Thursday and officially one week since my last day of work in the corporate world.
Sure, it's only been a few days. But I already feel like a different person. In my first video and blog posts, I shared how miserable I was feeling at work, and that I hoped distancing myself from what I felt to be a toxic environment would have a positive effect on me.
I was right - it has. Hugely.
My boyfriend says he hasn't seen me this happy in months. And as I sit outside in the beautiful sunshine writing this blog post, listening to Harry Styles (no judgement, please), I believe him. Because I feel it too. I feel lighter. Bubblier. More joyful. More me.
I am filling my days with projects, people, activities and interactions that make me feel GOOD, and I do feel like I am preparing to re-enter the job search with a clear mind (clear eyes, full heart, too, of course).

Yesterday - day three - was full and fulfilling, the perfect combination. It started with an incredibly rewarding workout at Orangetheory, followed by a less-painful-than-expected (gotta be grateful for what you can get) appointment at the Apple Genius Bar. While circling the mall parking lot looking for a spot then pushing through the throngs of crazed shoppers (on a Wednesday morning? Why?!) I had to remind myself of the first phrase in my final #30DaysOnFire "rule" - "whenever possible do only things that make me happier, healthier, and generally a better person." But, you know what - I guess getting my computer fixed did make me happier. So, that's something I should be grateful for, not complain about. Lesson learned.
In the afternoon, I spent time with my elderly friend I met via Care.com. Spending time with people who are so often marginalized by our perfection-obsessed, youth-centric society does truly set my soul on fire, and I am so grateful for this budding friendship.
In the evening, I spent time catching up with a friend on a walk in the park. Soaking up the sunshine with good company revitalized and re-centered me.
I realize this post is starting to read like a very dull, unnecessarily detailed diary entry (maybe the Harry Styles tunes are reverting me back to my tweenage self...) but that's something I've learned about myself and this project - to be successful, I have to hold myself accountable. No one else is going to keep me in line. If I didn't have this blog to report back to, there'd be less motivation to continue pursuing fire-setting soul enrichment and more freedom to sit around in my pajamas watching Harry Styles videos (ok, I'll admit - I squeezed in a little time for that yesterday. #SoulOnFireForHarry).
