Day 18: past the halfway point

Day 18.

Wow - over two weeks into this thing.

Over two weeks since I left the job that broke my spirit and stole my joy.

Over two weeks of putting myself out there (wherever “there” is - it’s definitely outside my comfort zone) and experiencing life-giving liberation.

It’s kind of hard to believe. But at the same time, I can’t imagine having it any other way.

When I first started this journey, 18 days ago, I pictured 30 beautiful days stretched out endlessly before me, like a blank canvas. Begging to be filled with romantic notions of independence: journaling by the pool with the sun shining, reading in bed with some candles glowing, meditating in the park with the birds chirping… you get the picture.

It hasn’t been quite that glamorous. If anything, it’s been humbling. I’m a 25 year old with a Masters degree, babysitting to make a little extra cash. I’m scraping by on a diet of canned soup and grilled cheese. I’m passing Target to drive the extra nine miles to the marginally cheaper Walmart.

But I would not change a single thing. Every day, I see myself turning back into the happy, positive, kind person I’d been missing for so long.

And - yes, even with no job - I’ve still felt really busy. The thing is, when people hear you are technically “unemployed,” they excitedly think of any and every way in which they can “employ” your talents and your time. But that’s ok! It makes me happy, helping other people and helping myself, too.

On Monday, I will be taking a seven day hiatus from #30DaysOnFire to travel to Mexico for a siblings vacation (scheduled - and paid for - when I still had a job, of course). I look forward to returning home ready to kick into high gear for the last ten days: applying to more jobs. Posting more videos. Trying more things. Making more connections. And doing more of what makes me happy.

30 Days On Fire Part II: here we come.
